Top 3 things to do in retirement

So you have worked hard all your life and now your retirement awaits you. But what are you going to do with all this spare time you have?

We spoke to some of our clients about what they plan to do in their retirement and we have come up with the top three things UK expats would like to do when they clock off for the final time.

1. Scuba diving in the Maldives

The crystal clear seas and vibrant Coral combination make the Maldives not only the perfect island escape but also the best place to see some of the most remarkable sea life in the world.

A fortnight all-inclusive in the Maldives where you might find yourselves sunbathing alongside celebrities such as George Clooney and Robert Lowe will cost you between £4000 - £6000.

2. Visit the Northern lights

People say you can see the Northern Lights from Scotland but in reality you are more likely to spot the Loch Ness Monster! If the Northern Lights are on your retirement list then you are going to have to head to Scandinavia, ideally between January and March when the skies are clearer and the nights are longer.

Seven nights in Finland will cost you around £1995 per person when visiting in March. If you think that’s a bit steep then you can always book a Loch Ness boat trip and go in search of Nessie for around £32!

3. Buy a holiday home

Long gone are the days of tin caravans on the coast of the UK cutting the mustard as a holiday home. Now expats dream of owning a cottage in the South of France or a penthouse apartment with a private golf course in Portugal.

For those missing the UK a mobile holiday home will cost you around £30,000- £50,000 and for those not ready to say goodbye to the sun, an apartment in Portugal will cost anything from £25,000 - £5m
