Launch of the third edition of the global Prize
01.06.2010

robinThe third edition of the global Prize for Ethics in Finance was launched on April 20th

2010 in London, at a ceremony hosted by Barclays Bank Plc and will be awarded in autumn 2011. The Jury confirmed that the theme should be maintained as INNOVATIVE IDEAS FOR ETHICS IN FINANCE. Guardian Wealth Management is a partner of the Prize.

The second edition of the regional Prize for Latin America will be launched in May 2010 in Madrid, kindly hosted by MAPFRE- the Spanish insurance company, on the same theme as the global Prize.

The vision of the Prize is to stimulate a global reflection on ethics in finance. Through the competition and the website, the Prize supports the sustainable future of the international finance sector with strong ethical awareness and commitment to integrity among all staff, reinforcing greater confidence amongst stakeholders- investors, shareholders, customers, regulators – and creating dynamic corporate cultures based on honesty, mutual respect, and the added value of a clear commitment to ethics in finance.

The Ethics in Finance- Robin Cosgrove Prize has launched a global debate on the role of ethics and integrity in all aspects of finance. The goal is to use the fresh ideas and discussion that result from this dialogue to inspire the young finance community and to re-inspire the broader finance, civic and academic communities.

Robust ethical standards are critically important for the success of the finance sector. Doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do may seem simple, but in complex financial transactions, all too often considerations of ethics and integrity may be squeezed. Ethics and integrity are the two pillars of trust – and without trust, no financial organization can command confidence.

The Prize administration hopes that financial firms from across a broad spectrum will use the Prize as a tool to develop greater awareness of Ethics in Finance, and encourage their young professionals to submit papers for the Prize.

Speakers at the ceremony in London on April 20th included:

  • Mr Chris Lucas, Group Finance Director of Barclays Bank Group
  • Ms Philippa Foster-Back, Director of the Institute for Business Ethics
  • Mr John Plender of the Financial Times
  • Dr Carol Cosgrove-Sacks, Director of the Prize

The competitions for the global and regional Prizes will close on March 31st 2011. Papers will be evaluated by international Juries. The Prize Winners could gain USD20,000 for the global Prize and USD15,000 for the Latin American Prize for Ethics in Finance.
